Oh, Silver Lake — sweet Silver Lake! Should we start with the “lake” itself? Silver Lake’s iconic reservoir is one of the most beloved spots in Los Angeles. It’s about two miles around — perfect for a jog, a leisurely walk, or a good gossip sesh with your girlfriends. There’s also a fabulous playground for the kiddos and an open meadow where you can picnic and let the little ones run free.
The homes surrounding the Silver Lake Reservoir are absolutely to die for — think romantic Spanish Colonials, charming 1920s bungalows, sleek contemporary builds, and architectural masterpieces by legends like Richard Neutra and Gregory Ain. Many homes are nestled into the hillsides, offering panoramic water and city views, while others sit on leafy streets just steps from the lake itself.
Silver Lake also has an incredible restaurant scene, but my forever favorite will always be L & E Oyster Bar. I’ve celebrated three birthdays there over the years — it’s such a classic. The upstairs bar serves fantastic cocktails, a dreamy smoked fish dip, and a rotating selection of creamy, briny oysters that are pure perfection. Botanica Restaurant and Market is another gem, offering fresh, seasonal food in a beautiful space, plus a curated wine selection you’ll definitely want to browse.
The median home price in Silver Lake is around $1.59 million, and the market remains highly competitive. With tight inventory and strong demand, many properties sell at or above list price in just about two weeks.

Originally hailing from the suburbs of Chicago, Joy fell in love with Los Angeles while vacationing here as a child. After 22 years of calling the Eastside her home, she has no plans to leave. She currently resides in Glassell Park with her husband Matt, their son Levi, and their 10 year old rescued pup, Cubby. When she’s not working with clients, you might find her exploring local boutiques, sampling the fare at one of the city’s newest restaurants with her girlfriends, or attending baby gymnastics classes with Levi.
